The main question: How did Ryan Routh learn about Donald Trump’s movements?
The assassination attempt on Donald Trump during a golf game in Florida was likely planned based on insider information about his schedule, raising concerns for Chris Swecker, a retired FBI assistant director.
According to the New York Post, Swecker expressed concern in an interview with Newsweek that the suspect, 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, might have known in advance about Trump’s visit to his golf club in West Palm Beach. Investigators are currently trying to determine how Routh ended up at the scene of the attempted assassination at the exact time Trump was on the course.
“The most important question right now is: how did the alleged assassin know where and when Trump would be?” said Swecker, who previously led investigations at the FBI.
According to him, there are only three possible explanations: a lucky coincidence, surveillance of Trump, or access to insider information. “The last option is the most troubling, as it could mean someone else was involved,” Chris Swecker added.
Routh, a Hawaii resident, was apprehended after Secret Service agents spotted the barrel of a rifle protruding from bushes on the golf course. The man was reportedly positioned 300–500 meters away from the 45th president and planned to film the attack using a GoPro camera.
The FBI is leading the investigation, trying to establish the motives and circumstances of the assassination attempt.
